![]() The few moves that are available feel very sluggish and frequently have an input lag on them, which causes this game to become a bit of a chore at times. You will often find yourself using the same moves over and over again as there are no additional moves or combos to explore. Ultimately, however, Battlegrounds fails to deliver on this front, as the combat is very limiting. This title feels like 2Ks attempt to move into a couch-competitive gaming style that is more akin to the Mortal Kombat/Tekken games, but with wrestling. It seems to require very precise timing to pull off, but even then seems to only work 50% of the time. I have found it extremely difficult to land grapples off of an irish whip rebound. This is amplified the moment you attempt to add a running or rebound manoeuvre into the mix. There have been countless times that strike and grapple attempts have gone through opponents, but have not actually affected them. Each move can be very ‘hit and miss’ at times. These move-sets consist of a few basic strikes and grapples and around 4 special grapples. Battlegrounds focuses on an arcade style brawler, with wrestlers being fitted into various classes with standardised move-sets, which cannot be edited. WWE 2K Battlegrounds attempts to completely move away from the formula of the yearly release titles, and it managed to do so, for the most part. Arcade-style powerups, such as Flaming Fist, Ice Breath and Earthquake, are accompanied by colorful visual effects, offering extra excitement and an additional dimension of strategy that can quickly change the direction of a match.Check out our video review of WWE 2K Battlegrounds to see all the action for yourself! Gameplay Choose from the Powerhouse, Technician, High-Flyer, Brawler and All-Rounder to find the style that works best for you. Each Superstar utilizes one of five class styles, and each class style has its own combat moves, strengths and weaknesses. Slaughter and many more, offers fan favorites for all generations of the WWE Universe to enjoy, with more unlockable Superstars to come via free updates in the future. A roster of today's biggest WWE Superstars, including Roman Reigns, Drew McIntyre, Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, Asuka, Daniel Bryan, Kofi Kingston, Randy Orton – combined with Legends – including Andre the Giant, Undertaker, Mankind, Shawn Michaels, Yokozuna, Sgt. WWE 2K Battlegrounds is designed to be easy to pick up and play, but challenging to master, with more advanced techniques to be learned and skills to be unlocked so players of all skill levels can enjoy the action. Superstars past and present will battle it out in this weirdly animated reality, courtesy of 2K Games. This one looks to serve as a nice change of pace for a year with some fun mechanics as its a wrestling game that's not meant to be taken so seriously. Which is fine considering how that last game received so much criticism for being janky. The game is also pretty much serving as a replacement title for what would have been WWE 2K21's spot, which the company canceled in favor of releasing this game.
